Foolproof Chocolate Orange Cake Recipe Instructions

Ingredients
  • 1 cup + 2 tbsp white flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 3/4 cups dark cacao powder
  • 1 and ½ cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • Zest and juice of 1 orange
  • ¾ cup dark chocolate, melted
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions
  1. Preheat the oven 350F
  2. Grease and line two 8-inch cake pans
  3. Beat butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy (3–4 minutes)
  4. Add the eggs one a time and mix well after each one
  5. Stir in melted chocolate (cooled but still fluid)
  6. Combine the dry ingredients and whisk until well incorporated
  7. Mix in wet ingredients - maple syrup, milk, orange juice and vanilla extract, folding into the dry ingredients until just combined. Take care not to overmix.
  8. Divide between the two prepared cake molds and bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until you put a skewer in the center and it comes out clean.
  9. Cool 10–15 minutes, then remove from pans
